Corma Inc. has won a significant patent infringement suit against Chinese manufacturer
Shanghai Jwell Machinery Co. and the user of the infringing product, ERA Construction
Materials DevelopmentCo., also of China. The lawsuit, which was filed in 2004, reached
a successful conclusion with the Shanghai Second Intermediate People's Court recent
ruling in favour of Corma Inc. and its order that Jwell and ERA stop infringing
Corma's patent. Jwell was also ordered to compensate Corma for economic loss.
The patent infringement centres on Corma's exclusive Mold Block Quick Return Technology,
the use of which increases output rates while offering the pipe producer a reduction
in the capital expenditure for moldblocks.
"This is an important win for our company," said Mr. Manfred Lupke, President
and CEO of Corma Inc. "Since first opening our doors in 1973, Corma has continually
researched and developed new products and technologies for the corrugated plastic
pipe industry, registering patents in selected countries around the world. In China,
Corma has been registering patents since the mid-eighties, with more than 30 patents
issued and dozens more in the application stage.
"Corma is the acknowledged world leader in many of our applications. We intend
to maintain our many competitive advantages by vigorously defending our leading-edge
